You may be happy to know there is no sight or smell of the poultry farm remaining. Instead you can picnic in shaded, grassy surrounds and admire the memorial to the solider settlers, who opened up the area.
The monument marks the site of a former returned soldier settlement and associated Grantham State Poultry Farm. The following information has been kindly provided by Mr Wayne Olling, President of Friends of Grantham Inc.
The memorial consists of a timber frame on a ceramic tiled plinth. The design represents two door frames - one symbolising exit from the theatre of war and the other symbolising re-entry to life in Australia. It also reflects both the distinctive stand of Grey Box eucalypts enclosing the estate and the simple timber-framed buildings of the Poultry Research Station.
